Glycoproteins. Structure and function
R. S. Fedoruk, O. P. Dolaychuk
The article describes structure of important class of biological polymers ? glycoproteins. Main components of the carbohydratic part and its impact on structure and functions of polypeptide is reviewed. The types of bond between glycan and protein component are described. Generalized also literature information regarding the functions and roles of glycoproteins in living organism. It is shown data, regarding the average content of some glycoprotein components in blood serum of human and animals. It is indicated, that violation of glycoprotein metabolism causes complex changes in cellular functions, on tissue and system levels. On the other hand, functional changes of individual systems in organism affect the component composition and content of glycoprotein in the blood and tissues, which has general biological, as well as clinical diagnostic value.
