Nitrogen metabolism in cows rumen fed diet with increased content of undegradable protein
I. V. Nevostruyeva, I. V. Vudmaska
Results of extruded rapeseed meal, sunflower cake or soybean meal use in cows diets on rumen fermentation are presented. Increasing consumption of dietary undegradable protein from 28.5-29.7 % to 39.6-43.6 % decreased free amino acids, non-protein, amine, and ammonia nitrogen level in rumen contents. Extruded sunflower cake diminished formation of propionic acid whereas extruded soybean meal lowered formation of butyric acid. All investigated extruded feeds decreased concentration of branched-chain volatile fatty acids in rumen fluid. In the ruminal fluid of cows fed extruded rapeseed meal, sunflower cake or soybean meal lower protease and amylase activity were observed.
