Influence of buffer on fatty acid profile of cow?s rumen digesta depending on carbohydrate composition of diet

O .V. Golubets

The effect of buffer addition on fatty acid profile of rumen digesta in cows fed rations with different composition of nonstructural carbohydrates and addition of 1 % of DM of sodium bicarbonate was investigated. The addition of sodium bicarbonate to diets with starch and sugar resulted in increased rumen bacteria growth and efficiency of biohydrogenation of unsaturated fatty acids. Cows fed ration with higher content on starch and buffer had higher level of cis 9, trans 11 C18:2, cows fed diet with higher content on sugar and buffer had higher level of trans 11 C18:1. At the same time contents of trans 10, cis 12 C18:2 and trans 10 C18:1 isomers were lower in rumen digesta of cows fed both diet with buffer addition.
