GLYCOSAMINOGLYCANS AS POSSIBLE AGENTS FOR TREATMENT AND PROPHILAXIS OF PRION INFECTIONS

Transmissible spongiform encephalopathies are fatal neurodegenerative diseases which affect central nervous system of mammal. Infectious agent for TSE is a pathological prion-protein. The most perspective group of compounds which can be used for a prophylaxis and treatment of prion infections is glycosaminoglycans. The article presents summary data about influence of glycosaminoglycans on expression of cellular (PrPc) and pathological (PrPSc) prions and pathogeny of prion infections.
