Fatty acids metabolism in the rumen of cows fed diets with different carbohydrates ratios

The effects of forage to concentrates ratio change from 80:20 to 60:40 in the diets of dairy cows on ruminal volatile and long chain fatty acid composition were investigated. Increased of propionate concentration in the ruminal content of cows fed concentrate diet have been found, where as acetate concentration did not depend from composition of diet. In the ruminal content of cows fed concentrate diet were elevated quantities of cis- and trans- isomers of unsaturated fatty acids.
